This morning I got a phone call.
My mom: “Jesse turn on the radio.”
Jesse: “I’ll get the podcast.”
And here it is Q: The Podcast for Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009.
Do newspapers need public funding?* ‘RIP: A Remix Manifesto‘, Canadian doc about mash-up culture* Jesse Wente on comic-inspired movies* Watchmen illustrator Dave Gibbons.

Here’s the trailer for RIP…
On Watchmen: Everybody’s talking to artist Dave Gibbons (Q included) because author Alan Moore isn’t involved with the WATCHMEN movie. Moore has sworn off a lot of big corporations in fact. In the case of one deposition he’d had to give with regards to his dealings with the big corps he said – he would have been better treated had he “molested and murdered a busload of retarded children after giving them heroin.”
Which leads me to point out that the latest WATCHMEN merchandise, a DVD that turns the DC Moore/Gibbons graphic novel into a quasi-audiobook/animated movie. The credits for it do not include Alan Moore.

Popular audiobook narrator Scott Brick was podcast-interviewed by the people at Behind The Mike – The Radio Show About … Whatever! – the lengthy intro babble is incredibly inane and boring [skip it], but the actual interview, which runs between the 16:20 mark and the 58:04 mark is very interesting. Brick talks about his beginnings in the business, how he approaches narration, his love of radio drama, abridgements, and some of the many audiobooks he’s narrated. Have a listen |MP3|.

Neil Gaiman, talked to Jian Ghomeshi of CBC Radio One’s Q on a recent broadcast/podcast. They chatted about The Graveyard Book‘s new Newberry Award designation, the new film version of Coraline, and why scary stories aren’t bad for kids. Have a listen |MP3|.

P.S. Hey CBC! Why wont you FREE Apocalypse Al?
I mentioned the paperbook called Mistakes Were Made (But Not By Me) in The SFFaudio Podcast #023.
So, here’s the thing. Sometimes I push the limits. I sometimes tell you about stuff that, if you only look at it head-on, doesn’t really sound much related to Science Fiction, Fantasy or even Aural Noirish Mystery etc.. But, this one really is related (or so I’m convincing myself).
If you don’t buy that, just pretend I’m right in this case and go with the fiction. Listen for the Casablanca (see Aural Noir!) reference within this enlightening interview.
Have a listen to CBC Radio’s Ideas host Paul Kennedy talking to Elliot Aronson about why the ending of Casablanca isn’t very realistic (cognitive dissonance). This particular interview appeared in The Best Of Ideas podcast back in Summer 2008.
CBC Radio One: Ideas – MISTAKES WERE MADE – BY OTHERS!
1 |MP3| – 53 Minutes 30 Seconds [INTERVIEW]
Podcaster: CBC Radio One’s The Best Of Ideas
Podcast: 2008
Why do people dodge responsibility when things fall apart? Why can’t political figures own up to their blunders? What’s behind so many domestic fights? The distinguished social psychologist Elliot Aronson tells us about the power of cognitive dissonance.
