Canadia: 2056 episode 5 (half-way mark) airing today

SFFaudio OnlineAudio

Canadia 2056Canadia: 2056 episode 5 is airing across Canada this morning starting at 11:30 am in all time zones (except Newfoundland). You can hear it ONLINE via the Streaming Radio Map – just click the time zone in your area at 11:30 (you can also time-shift a bit) and a RealAudio stream will be available. Radio stations across Canada are also an option – but as of yet there is no podcast feed! The airing of this episode makes this the half-way point through Canadia: 2056‘s run!

Here’s the official CBC Radio hotsheet description:

“The Captain and Anderson are away from the ship when disaster strikes. It’s a technical malfunction that’s bad enough to destroy the ship. And even moving around onboard requires ingenuity. Head for outer space this morning aboard Canadia 2056, the lone Canadian government spacecraft, sent to support an American space armada fighting hostile aliens. Canadia 2056, this morning at 11:30 (noon NT) on CBC Radio One.”

Hey, does anybody know how to spell the Canadia: 2056 version of their curse-equivalent of “frak”? Is it kruk? Cruc? Here, listen to this MP3 CLIP from episode 2, it’s full of lots of cruc/kruk/krukin’ type swearing.

I need to know how to spell it so I can write CBC an email, as in: “Hey CBC, where’s the crukin’ podcast feed for Canadia: 2056?”

Steve The First & Steve The Second

SFFaudio News

CBC Radio OneGood news everyone! Just announced over on the Inside The CBC blog was a rough summer 2007 outline of programming for CBC Radio one. In the section on CBC drama it was announced that the summer season will include a re-broadcasts of the 2005 comedy Science Fiction series Steve The First, and 2006 follow-up series Steve The Second – both these shows were written and starred Canadia: 2056 star/scribe Matt Watts.

Unfortunately there was no word on the languishing Adventures Of Apocalypse Al, comedy/SF series that was penned by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski. That show was recorded last year but has yet to be broadcast.

Have you heard The Radio Adventures of Doctor Floyd podcast?

SFFaudio Online Audio

The Radio Adventures Of Doctor FloydClearly we’ve been remiss. How could we not have posted about the long-running The Radio Adventures Of Doctor Floyd podcast previously? This is a Parsec Award winning show! It has been running on the net since 2004! And there’s been nary a word about it on SFFaudio! How can this be? Clearly this is the work of the evil Dr. Steve! “But who is this Dr. Steve?” You ask. Ah, there’s the rub…

Dr. Steve is an evil mastermind and the arch-nemesis of Dr. Floyd and his stalwart crew of time traveling heroes. Dr. Floyd also happens to be the main character in a short audio drama series unique to podcasting. This is a kid-friendly show that draws inspiration from the animated Rocky & Bullwinkle Show. In almost every episode one historical character or another is featured prominently. Here’s the premise:

When his Time and Space Travel Device is stolen by the evil mastermind Dr. Steve and his sock-shaped assistant Fidgert…Dr. Floyd, his young protégé Dr. Grant and their faithful robot companion C.H.I.P.S. must do what they can to get it back. Bent on achieving fame and fortune, Dr. Steve plans to race through history stealing historical items and then returning to the future to sell them on eBay. Can Dr. Floyd and his crew thwart the evil machinations of Dr. Steve and Fidgert?

BBC Radio 2 Science Fiction Comedy pilot Daydream Believers

Online Audio

Our UK correspondent, Roy, has written in with a last minute addition… Daydream Believers on BBC R2 13:00-13:30 Saturday 5th May (hey that’s today!) Roy writes:

“This is apparently a pilot show only, but the BBC has promised a series if successful. SF Comedy (of both the TV & Radio varieties) often falls flat on its face and is one of the most difficult sub-genres, but Mitchell & Webb are riding high on TV at the moment so there is cause for optimism.”

I’m gonna give it a try, here are the details if you’d like to too…

Online Audio - BBC Radio 2Daydream Believers
1 Broadcast – [RADIO DRAMA]
Broadcaster: BBC Radio 2
Broadcast: Saturday 5th May- 13:00-13:30
“[A] Sci-fi comedy in which David Mitchell and Robert Webb star as tetchy novelist Ray and his flatmate Colin and, in a parallel space adventure concocted by Ray, as Baron Amstrad and his bothersome android companion Info.”

This show has already aired, but it is available via ‘listen again‘ service. Thanks Roy!
