Canadia 2056Another Friday, so you know what that means! Yep, it’s Canadia: 2056 day, and today’s CBC Radio One broadcast is of episode 6. It’s airing on every single CBC Radio One station across Canada this morning starting at 11:30 am in all time zones (Noon in Newfoundland). And of course, if you’re not conveniently sitting by your radio at 11:30 am you still have a chance to hear it ONLINE via the Streaming Radio Map – just click the time zone in your area at 11:30am in your time zone, or do a bit of math and you can also time-shift a bit. Only four more episodes left after today’s!

Here’s the official CBC Radio hotsheet description:

“Head for outer space this morning aboard Canadia 2056, the lone Canadian government spacecraft, sent to support an American space armada fighting hostile aliens. This week, the crew loses the ability to navigate the ship, when control is taken over by a cloud. The up side is that the cloud grants them wishes, and the down side is also that the cloud grants them wishes – in other words, they make some questionable choices! Also, Anderson is pining away for Connie, his first love. Canadia 2056, this morning at 11:30 (noon NT) on CBC Radio One.”

I’m sad to say, there’s been no response to my queries to the CBC, about the status of a Canadia:2056 podcast. Perhaps their tired of hearing my lone voice? If you want CBC to make their Radio Dramas available via podcast, or at least by something equivilent to the BBC “Listen Again” service try calling the toll-free phone number (Canada only): 1-866-306-4636 or using the web-contact form.

Hey, does anybody know how to spell the Canadia: 2056 version of their curse-equivalent of “frak”? Is it kruk? Cruc? Here, listen to this MP3 CLIP from episode 2, it’s full of lots of cruc/kruk/krukin’ type swearing.

I need to know how to spell it so I can write CBC an email, as in: “Hey CBC, where’s the crukin’ podcast feed for Canadia: 2056?”

Steve The First & Steve The Second

SFFaudio News

CBC Radio OneGood news everyone! Just announced over on the Inside The CBC blog was a rough summer 2007 outline of programming for CBC Radio one. In the section on CBC drama it was announced that the summer season will include a re-broadcasts of the 2005 comedy Science Fiction series Steve The First, and 2006 follow-up series Steve The Second – both these shows were written and starred Canadia: 2056 star/scribe Matt Watts.

Unfortunately there was no word on the languishing Adventures Of Apocalypse Al, comedy/SF series that was penned by Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski. That show was recorded last year but has yet to be broadcast.

Sounds Like Canada Interview with Robert J. Sawyer

SFFaudio Online Audio

CBC Radio One - Sounds Like CanadaCBC‘s flagship morning programme, Sounds Like Canada, recently captured an accessible interview with Canada’s foremost SF author Robert J. Sawyer. Here’s how the official program log reads:

Robert Sawyer has won an armload of awards for his science fiction novels including the Nebula and the Hugo. His books often look at the intersection between science and religion and present complicated science and tech ideas in a clear way. His new novel is called, Rollback and it’s the story of a geriatric husband and wife who undergo a rejuvenation procedure. Big ethical questions emerge when the husband’s “rollback” to his mid-twenties is successful but his wife remains eighty-seven. Shelagh speaks with Robert Sawyer in Toronto.

Host, Shelagh Rogers, really knows how to wring goodness from her guests. Sadly, this segment was not included in the “Best of Sounds Like Canada Podcast” for April 25th. So we’ve rectified the situation. You can download the 23 minute interview via our MP3 link.

This week, there’s trouble when a nuclear spill aboard the U-S fleet becomes the center of a tug-of-war between the Canadians and the Americans. What complicates matters is that the American elite cleanup force is headed by an ex-member of the Canadia crew who also had a relationship with the captain?
