Paradox: CONAN audiobook coming in June 2009

SFFaudio News

Meego ConanA Paradox Entertainment representative has posted this on the Conan.com forums:

We are glad to announce that the popular Robert E. Howard series published by Random House/Del Rey is coming as audiobooks from Tantor Audio. First out, starting in June 2009 with one release each month, are the three Conan books [The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian, The Bloody Crown of Conan, The Conquering Sword of Conan], followed by “Bran Mak Morn: The Last King“, “The Horror Stories of Robert E. Howard“, “Kull: Exile of Atlantis” and “The Savage Tales of Solomon Kane“.

Details go on to say that Todd McLaren will be the narrator. Here’s a sample of his voice |MP3|. Plans are for the audiobooks to be in the cd, mp3-cd and “mp3 download (online only)” formats. That last seems rather unlikely as Tantor will probably be selling direct downloads through Audible.com (which doesn’t offer MP3).

a POUL ANDERSON author page

SFFaudio News

Poul AndersonI’ve added a complete and unabridged (I think) listing of all and every audiobook and radio drama associated with POUL ANDERSON. You’ll find it under our AUTHOR PAGES section.

And, for those interested in recording a Poul Anderson story — there is a new listing over on Manybooks.net featuring a 1955 Poul Anderson story called The Barbarian. It should be a fun listen as it spoofs Robert E. Howard’s Conan.

SFFaudio News

METAtropolisThe 2009 Hugo Nominations have been announced. Very interesting is the nomination of the METAtropolis audiobook in the Dramatic Presentation, Long Form category. It’s there competing against four films: The Dark Knight, WALL-E, Hellboy II, and Iron Man. All of the novel nominees are available on audio, except for Charles Stross’s Saturn’s Children:

Anathem by Neal Stephenson (Audiobook from Macmillan Audio)

Saturn’s Children by Charles Stross
Zoe’s Tale by John Scalzi (Audiobook from Macmillan Audio, exclusive to Audible.com)

Signed Neil Gaiman poster up to auction on eBay

SFFaudio News

Signed Neil Gaiman THE GRAVEYARD BOOK posterSo after sitting on it for a month, hoping they’d get really nostalgic and want to see it framed, I’ve gone and listed the signed THE GRAVEYARD BOOK on eBay. |HAVE A LOOK|

After initially showing it off around the school my idea was to get it framed or at least laminated so their grubby little paws wouldn’t ruin it. But I was completely outvoted. Perhaps letting the kids vote on what to do with it was too democratic an impulse? Yep. It was a quasi-unanimous vote – with one kid thinking it’d be nice (at first) to have it in the classroom – but eventually the general impetus was to sell-sell-sell-it and split the proceeds among the group (that last part is my interpretation as they all pretty much agreed they each deserved the entire amount for themselves). It’s almost like a class full of Ferengi kids.

My hope is that they’ll at least use some of the $$ that come for buying more books.

If you’re a Gaiman collector with more of a sentimental side than my little ferengis go and bid HERE is the listing (it ends in 10 days).
