John Kessel (1950 – ) is a writer, editor, playwright and teacher. Born in Buffalo, New York he is an American author of Science Fiction and Fantasy with a particular bent towards the short story. He has won a Nebula Award, the Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award and had a story top the Locus poll. One of his stories, A Clean Escape, was adapted to audio drama by the now defunct Seeing Ear Theatre.

For forty years he’d subordinated every scrap of his artistic ambition to promoting this vision. But by 1934 Wells’s optimism, along with his energy for saving the world, was waning.
